  • "ERROR-CODE: Connection" received after upgrading to Wordpress 6.6

My Wordpress website https://www.tidskriftenopera.se/ was automatically updated to Wordpress 6.6 on Wednesday July 17, and since then Blog2Social is not working. When trying to go to the admin screen, I get "ERROR-CODE: Connection", and I get the same error when I go to share a post. I can reach the help and support section of Blog2Social, but nothing else. My PHP timeout is set to 300, so it cannot be that. When using the trouble-shooting tool, I get an error for Hotlink protection, but nothing else. I've looked at the FAQs for that, but cannot find anything that seems applicable, and I fail to see how this would lock me out of Blog2Social altogether. I cannot activate legacy mode, since the plugin isn't loading the settings page.

Interestingly, my development website, which is also upgraded to Wordpress 6.6, still works. It is basically the same install, but has a few plugins that have not been updated.

    Hello Staffan,

    Thanks for reaching out.

Please be aware that this notification is likely caused in your individual WordPress environment by
    - a slow server and results in a server-side timeout of your website
    - too strict security settings (for example, by plugins, firewalls or your host)

I’d recommend checking and, if necessary, increasing your website's memory limit to 512M and your execution time to 400 and checking your security settings / plugins and the performance / reaction time of your website in general.
The connection to the server failed. Please try again!

You could also try whitelisting Blog2Social since proper access could be blocked by installed security plugins or additional firewalls on the server-side as well. If you are using security plugins or server sided settings please try to whitelist your own server IP as well in order to allow automatic curl processes if you face any issues. You may also try to unblock our IPs if required.
    Server location: Germany
    176.28.35.48
    178.77.85.168

Please let me know if it worked out or if you have any other questions.

    Best regards

    Benedikt

Thank you, Benedikt! I have been in touch with my hosting provider, and they have informed me that there are no IPs blocked. Our server is working reasonably well - pages are loading quickly. I have not made any changes to any security settings or plugins in the past week, so I don't see how it could be an issue with that.

I'm wondering if something could have gone wrong when the server was upgraded to 6.6. Is it possible to remove and re-install the Blog2Social plugin, or would that remove all my configuration settings and so on? The issue seems limited to Blog2Social, which is responding with the connection error almost immediately - the rest of the site and plugins are working just fine.

        Hello Staffan,

        Thank you for your reply.

Did you try whitelisting Blog2Social and increasing your website's performance?
I can assure you that Blog2Social works properly on more than 70.000 websites worldwide and that there were no changes from our end.

Since you mentioned that it’s working properly on your other website, it seems that there are some differences between your websites. I’d recommend checking what’s different.
Of course, you could also try uninstalling and reinstalling Blog2Social.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

        Best regards

        Benedikt
