  • Facebook Post Image is Cropped

    Hi Support Team,

I have an issue with auto-posting on Facebook. Once the blog post is published and it has a feature image on it, the tool auto-posts the post to the connected Facebook page. Blog2Social uses the feature image on the WordPress post to be the post's image on the Facebook page. That is great so far!

However, the image on the Facebook post is cropped - Please see attached an example.

So am I doing something wrong in setting up the tool? Or do I have to set the feature image on the WordPress Post to be in specific dimensions and format?

    Thanks!
    Asem

    Hello Asem,

    Thank you for reaching out.

May I ask you if it’s possible that your image does not meet the requirements of Facebook?
What is the best image size for my social media posts?

In general, issues with images are often caused by missing or conflicting metadata (Open Graph Tags). The social media networks will always display the information they find in the source code of your post on your website since Blog2Social just sends your link towards them. The following guides show you exactly:
What are open graph tags and what do I use them for?
Troubleshooting: Checklist and solutions for setting Open Graph Tags
Why is my image not displayed in my social media posts?

If you are still facing issues, please be so kind as to send me the link to your post on Facebook where you are facing this behavior so I can check this for you.

    Best regards

    Benedikt

      Hi Benedikt,

Thanks for your response. Please find below the information you asked for.

Link to the Blog Post: https://elite-charleston-vets.com/ve...charleston-sc/

Link to the FB Post: https://www.facebook.com/Elite.Charleston.Vets/ (The post in the attachment from my previous message is the pinned one. However, if you scroll through the page, you will see that same issue among all posts)

I will sincerely appreciate any insights on how to get the FB image appear properly on the FB post(s).

      Thanks again!

        Hello Asem,

        Thanks for your reply.

When checking your posts on Facebook I noticed that you’re sharing “link posts” on Facebook. In this case, Facebook automatically crops your image to fit its requirements.
If you want your image to be displayed without being cropped I would recommend adjusting your image ratio to landscape or sharing “image posts” on Facebook.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

        Best regards

        Benedikt

I very much appreciate your insights - That was a great hint regarding the image post option, or changing the size of the image.

We can consider this thread closed.

Thanks so much for your help and have a great weekend!

              Hi Benedikt,

Yes, sure thing will do the review :-)

However, I have regarding this topic one more question, excuse me please!

I follow your advice to share the posts as "image posts" and this works really well in terms of showing the image, i.e. it is not cropped. However, I noticed one interesting issue with this approach that is related to enabling the option "Add a link URL to the end of my image post".

Issue: The link in the image post has the wrong category (uncategorized), however, when I click on the link, it redirects me to the correct link with the correct category (i.e. no 404 error).

Example: Animal Insurance For Dogs In Charleston SC

Blog Post (Published in the category: pet health insurance): https://elite-charleston-vets.com/pe...charleston-sc/
Face Book Page: Please see the corresponding FB image post on https://www.facebook.com/Elite.Charleston.Vets/

The link on the Facebook image post: https://elite-charleston-vets.com/un...charleston-sc/ (it has the category uncategorized in the URL)

Interestingly, when you click on the link in the image post that has the wrong URL because of the wrong category, you will be redirected to the correct URL with the correct category.

              P.S.

              1) These posts are classified as "Import Posts" because they are auto-published on the word press blog using API. I also checked the option "publish after 5 minutes" to give your plugin the time to pick the correct category, but this did not help.

              2) This issue is not related to a specific category. All posts regardless the category have "uncategorized" category in their URLs on the FB image posts. You can scroll through the top image posts on the FB page.

              3) If I let the post auto-published on my WP site using the API, while the "auto-share" option on your plugin is disabled, the blog post will be published on my WP site without being auto-shared to the FB page (That is so far correct). Then, if I manually share this post through your plugin dashboard (All posts -> share on social media), then the URL of the blog post is correct on the FB image post.

Example on the FB page: This FB image post: Dog Blood Test Near Me In Charleston SC
The link on the image post is:
https://elite-charleston-vets.com/veterinary-blood-tests/dog-blood-test-near-me-in-charleston-sc/ And that is the correct URL with the correct category in the URL

Could you please point me in the direction on how to resolve this issue?

              Thanks!
              Asem

P.S. WP asked me to create an account before leaving a review on the link you shared. I created one and am waiting for my WP account to be approved. Once done, I will be thrilled to leave you a great review because you deserved it. Thanks

                  Hello Asem,

Thanks for your response and feedback.

I could imagine that the correct url category is not set when the post is created on your website. That’s why Blog2Social is using the “uncategorized” one. Please note that Blog2Social is following the usual WordPress routine to fetch the data from your posts. I would recommend contacting the developers of your importing plugin to find out if they can adjust this.

                  Best regards

                  Benedikt

                    Hello Benedikt

The correct URL category is set when the post is created on my website. I respectfully disagree with you because of the following reasons:

1- I see that all posts created and imported are assigned to the correct category in my WordPress Dashboard. I also stated some examples in my previous message.
2- If I click on the link in the image post that has the wrong category, it directs me to the correct URL with the correct category.
3- If I auto-share using the "link post", everything is working perfectly fine and the link on the FB post has the correct URL (it is only the issue that the image is being cropped).
4- If I manually share the post as an image post on the FB page, everything works perfectly line (Image is not cropped and the link has the correct category).

So, this issue happens only when I auto-share the post as an image post, which gives me the impression that it is an issue with Blog2social since the plugin adds the correct link in the link post, but it does not in the image post.

                    Thanks!
                    Asem
