  • Auto-post to Facebook

    Hello,

I use Blog2Social to automatically publish WordPress articles from ToutMontbeliard.com (www.toutmontbeliard.com) to our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/toutmontbeliard).

The problem is: the automatic publishing via Blog2Social does create a clickable link to the correct article, but the Facebook preview only displays "www.toutmontbeliard.com", without an image or article title.

However, when I manually share the same full link on Facebook, the preview works correctly with the image, title, and article link.

The Open Graph tags are generated by AIOSEO and appear to be correct. Blog2Social's Open Graph tags have been disabled to avoid duplicates.

Could you tell me which Blog2Social setting forces the Facebook post to display a true "link preview" with the full article URL, and not a generic domain preview?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out.

If your images are not displaying correctly on Facebook link posts, there could be several factors at play.
I have analyzed this link from your Facebook page using the Facebook Sharing Debugger, and Facebook returned the following error (as shown in the attached screenshot):
Bad Response Code: URL returned a bad HTTP response code.
This response code could be due to a robots.txt block. Please allowlist facebookexternalhit on your sites robots.txt config to utilize Facebook scraping

To ensure Facebook can successfully crawl your website and display your images and link descriptions, please share these results with your webmaster or hosting provider.
Please keep in mind that Blog2Social simply transmits your link to Facebook, but the preview generation is handled entirely by Facebook’s own systems. Because the image does not appear within the Facebook Sharing Debugger tool itself, this indicates an issue on the receiving or hosting end.

Additionally, I’ve attached this troubleshooting guide for you: When I post to Facebook, no image or the wrong image appears in my post. Why?

Please let us know if it worked or if you have further questions.

    Best regards

    Benedikt

Thank you for the quick response.

      Here is what robots.txt contains:

      User-agent: *
      Disallow: /wp-admin/
      Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

      User-agent: facebookexternalhit
      Allow: /

      User-agent: Facebot
      Allow: /

And what's curious is that if I publish manually, it works perfectly.

          Hello,

          Thanks for your reply.

Regarding the setup of your robots.txt file: unfortunately we cannot provide direct assistance with this configuration. However, we strongly recommend ensuring that Facebook is permitted to access your website so that all information is displayed correctly. We suggest consulting with your webmaster or hosting provider to check for any existing blocks that might be preventing Facebook from properly loading your images and links. Have you reviewed the steps provided in this guide?

Since you mentioned that it doesn't work via the Auto-Poster but works fine when sharing directly on Facebook, the issue might be related to your website's performance. In this case, we suggest setting a delay of 5-10 minutes in the Auto-Poster settings.

Alternatively, we recommend switching your Facebook post format to 'Image Posts' and placing the link within the text or the first comment. When using image posts, Blog2Social uploads the image directly to Facebook, which bypasses the preview generation issue and ensures your content displays correctly.
Kindly refer to this tutorial: How do I post content as the first comment of my social media post?

          Best regards

          Benedikt

I tested publishing with a 10-minute delay. The problem persists.

It's unfortunate that only image sharing is offered; we much prefer it, and we've been using link sharing for years.

Could you please look into whether there's a problem on your end and find a solution to get link sharing working again with proper display?

              I ran further tests:

              - The site correctly provides the og:image ;

              - AIOSEO correctly generates the tags;

              - The problem is not in the article's HTML code.

The remaining issue is therefore with the Facebook/Blog2Social API: Facebook does not process the preview in the same way when the link is automatically sent by Blog2Social as when I share it manually.

                Hello,

                Thanks for your feedback.

Have you reviewed the SiteGround and Wordfence sections of this guide?
Kindly check with your webmaster and hosting provider to ensure there isn't a robots.txt block, and confirm that facebookexternalhit has been added to the allowlist.

Please note that Blog2Social just sends your link to Facebook. The rest of the process (including how the preview of your link is generated) is handled entirely by Facebook’s own systems and lies outside our technical control. This is confirmed by the fact that the image of your link does not appear when checking it with the Facebook Sharing Debugger tool itself as shown in the screenshot. We are seeing this same result for every post on your website when using the tool.

The suggestion to use image posts was just intended as a workaround to bypass the issues with Facebook’s link preview generation.

                Best regards

                Benedikt
