  • 'Connection to the server failed. Please try again!' Relate to PHP DOM?

Does 'The connection to the server failed. Please try again!' alert im getting on all of the three accounts I've added, relate to PHP Dom support error that is flagged in troubleshooting?

PHP DOM s the only error that the troubleshooter has flagged. I will need to get third party assistance to fix this so I would like to confirm it is the likely cause of the connection issue first.

    Hello,

    Thanks for reaching out.

The notification “connection to the server failed” on your website is likely caused by
    - a slow server and results in a server-side timeout
    - too strict security settings (for example, by plugins or firewalls).

I would recommend checking your security settings / plugins and the performance / reaction time of your website in general.
The connection to the server failed. Please try again!

Another easy way to check if another plugin is causing this on your website is to use the “Health Check & Troubleshooting” plugin from WordPress. This plugin is intended for such cases and will perform a number of checks on your WordPress installation to detect common configuration errors and known issues, and also allows plugins and themes to add their own checks.
With the “Health Check & Troubleshooting” plugin you can simulate to deactivate all plugins except Blog2Social and activate one after the other to see which plugin is causing this.

Please let me know if it worked out or if you have further questions.

    Best regards

    Benedikt

      Thanks Benedikt

I've installed the plugin and we will investigate the issues as soon as possible.

Our first thought was the problem related to the firewall. We tried whitelisting all of the following: blog2social.com/$, blog2social.com/$, ^blog2social.com/, ^www.blog2social.com/, www.blog2social.com/$, ^blog2social.com/, ^www.blog2social.com/, www.blog2social.com/$, 176.28.35.48, to no avail.

Weve now received the advice that we ere unable to unable to directly whitelist a domain name on the Firewall. Therefore, we need to identify the URL/API endpoint that blog2social.com utilises, such as 'wp-json'. Once we have this information, we can permit the URL path on the Firewall.

Can you assist with this advise?

        Hello,

        Thanks for your reply.

You could try whitelisting Blog2Social since proper access could be blocked by installed security plugins or additional firewalls on the server-side as well. If you are using security plugins or server sided settings please try to whitelist your own server IP as well in order to allow automatic curl processes if you face any issues.

You may also try to unblock our IPs if required:
        Server location: Germany
        IPv4: 176.28.35.48
        IPv6: 2a01:488:42:1000:b24d:55a8

Did you try the “Health Check & Troubleshooting” plugin from WordPress?

        Best regards

        Benedikt

Yes we tried the plugin. It flagged a slow server response time, no persistent object cache and no dom, imagick, zip and intl modules.

What do you suggest we investigate?

            Hello,

            Thank you for your response.

I would recommend checking and adjusting your website's memory limit to 512M and your execution time to 400. Please also make sure that your website meets the system requirements.

Did you check your security settings and allow outgoing connections or include an exception or whitelisting for Blog2Social?

You may also try to unblock our IPs if required:
            Server location: Germany
            IPv4: 176.28.35.48
            IPv6: 2a01:488:42:1000:b24d:55a8

            Best regards
